From the Rector

Welcome Autumn

Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

It's that time of year when we're preparing to go back to school — and back to church school! With the Blessing of the Backpacks behind us, our children are ready to resume their education in various public and private schools as well as resume their spiritual formation in our church school. Church school pre-registration forms are available now in Sunday service leaflets, and we hope to see parents and grandparents at the Church School Open House Sunday September 21, 9 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. At that time each family unit will receive a free guide on raising children of faith. What could be more important in our world? Church school classes begin at 9 a.m. September 28.

Fall is an exciting time here. Our Friends Campaign kicks off Sunday, September 7. The basic idea is that we People of God believe that the Gospel of Jesus is indeed good news, and since it's good news, we want to share it. So think about who you will invite to be part of our Friend Day celebration, which culminates on Sunday, October 5, with worship and a Ministry Fair — not to mention delicious treats.

The PBS documentary Traces of the Trade (a Sundance Film Festival selection) will be shown in our parish hall on Friday, September 12, 6:30 p.m., sponsored by the Diocese. Bishop Wright will likely be in attendance to view this remarkable telling of a slave-holding family from Virginia. Members of that family — the DeWolfs — will be present for discussion following the film. Reservation is necessary: 302-656-5443, ext.106.

Your friend in Christ Jesus,
