Our choir is made up of all volunteers. They meet for regular rehearsal at 7:00 p.m. each
Wednesday night in the parish house, and warm up a half hour before the ten a.m. service each Sunday.
The church is always seeking new choir members. Anyone who wants to sing is encouraged to join - by just coming directly to rehearsal (upstairs in the parish house), or speaking ahead of time to the Music Director or one of the choir members.
Our Music Director is Jon Rania, who may be reached at
or 302-734-5731.
In addition to the regular Sunday services, the choir sings several times a year at special services, such as on Christmas eve, during Holy week, and occasional choral evensongs.
Christ Church has formed a Children's Choir. All children ages six and older are welcome to join. Rehearsals are held on Sundays immediately after the 10 a.m. service in the choir room, second floor of the parish house; parents are welcome to sit in on the rehearsals. Please contact Jon Rania for more information.
Music at Christ Church is an integral part of our worship. We remember the
origins of early Christian celebrations of praise and supplication in the traditions of the Hebrew psalms, which, in fact, form the basis of much of even our spoken liturgy.
Our songs and anthems are expressions of reverence and homage, not just service ornaments. Most are for all the congregation to sing, some are musical offerings by our choir. Since we are scripturally oriented, hymns and anthems are selected to reinforce the lessons for the day.
During the summer months there are no weeknight rehearsals. The choir welcomes anyone who would like to sing with them even if you are just visiting to join with them in what we call our "pickup choir." Robes are not worn, and a simple warmup at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday is the only additional time required.
Regular Adult Choir rehearsals will resume September 10, at 7 p.m., and the Children's Choir rehearsals resume September 14, folowing the 10 a.m. service.
