Give a "Gift for Life"

Sometimes when we are asked to give to a global organization we wonder where our contribution will really wind up.

It's easier to visualize our money being put to productive use when we can actually buy a goat. Or mosquito nets to protect children from malaria. Or schooling for a child orphaned by AIDS.

Episcopal Relief and Development's "Gifts for Life" catalog gives us an opportunity to be much more personal and directed with our giving.

You can designate a gift for women's entrepreneurship, health and sanitation, even a pig or a goat for a needy family.

Because of the support Episcopal Relief and Development receives from the Domestic and Foreign Missionary Society in the form of contributed services as well as its investment income, 92% of every donor dollar goes directly to programs.

A yearly stewardship snapshot

Pledges provide roughly two-thirds of Christ Church's operating budget every year. The rest come from plate offerings and interest on endowments and other funds invested through the Diocese.

In order to sustain our missions and ministries, and pay for the upkeep of our Parish Hall and historic church, it's critical to know what our expected cash flow will be for the coming year so we can budget accordingly. Please consider your pledge as a proportion of your income.

It may not be a tithe, or 10 percent, but to calculate your pledge in this way encourages reflection on all that you have and where those blessings come from. Please return your pledge card by November 6.

Health ministry supports parish wellness

The purpose of the Christ Church Health Ministry is to minister bodiesto the congregation by promoting health and wellness through programs of education and support; by praying; being available, assisting individuals in acquiring resources and knowledge; and by encouraging healthy lifestyles among the members of the congregation.

Did you know that each year smoking kills more people than all traffic accidents, illegal drugs, alcohol, fires, falls and AIDS combined?  It is also not surprising that on average, smokers die 10 years earlier than non-smokers by continuing to smoke.

If health issues are not enough, think about this:  If you smoke a pack of cigarettes a day and you stop smoking, you can save almost $2000 in a year.

The Christ Church Health Ministry can assist you in getting help to stop smoking. You can receive one-on-one personal coaching either in-person or on the telephone with a trained smoking cessation coach and you may also be eligible for medication to help you “kick the habit” at no cost to you.

Christ Church Women’s Support Group

We all long for understanding, compassion, and respect. And sometimes it's easiest to find this among others who share our situation or outlook. Whether we are coping with a health issue or trying to change our life for the better, there's nothing like sharing stories and experiences with others on the same path.

The Christ Church Women’s Support Group has been going strong for several months. It is facilitated by a professional counselor and has been proven to be an ideal way for women to help other women address issues that concern them. The group welcomes new participants at any time. Anyone joining the group is asked to make a six week financial commitment and attend as many weekly meetings as possible during that time. The cost is $12/week.
